Another year, another Midsummer.  The kids had a great time riding the tractor and dancing.  Rikard preferred the candy and Calle liked the gravel pile that he found.  We all missed Jennifer who was away in the US.

The reason for Jen's visit was the passing of her mom.  She lost a 6 months fight with Cancer and passed away on June 19th.  She was a remarkeble woman/mother that will leave a big empty place in all of our hearts.  The kids know that Mormor is looking down on them from the sky every day.

Vacation plan this year is Gotland & USA.  It will be a fun time where the kids will see farfar & morfar as well as cousins.  Let's hope the sun will follow us around the globe.

Peace.

Fall is here.  We have had the best summer weather here in the last fifty years.  Even September was great.  The kids started pre-school in early August.  Things are going well.  Gustav had his first ice skating experience last week and he is excited to do this every Thursday.

We are on the last leg of our renovations at the summer house, and on our first leg of renovations at our house on Lidingö.  It will be 12 months of building etc, but it is needed since there have been no updates during the last 35 years.

The Twins are growing like weeds.  They eat an enormous amount and they have a lot of energy.  Rikard and Blueblue are best friends and enjoy playing together.  Calle "Bus" is more interested in bathroom visits and he can't wait to lose the diaper for good.

Cheers for now.

It has been yet another busy month.  Our container with a SUV and 500 boxes arrived in early June.  We have filled a few storage locations so that we can manage, until our house is availble in August.  Jen is off to the US for 10 days, so the boys club will be hanging for a few days without their queen bee.

The boys spent Wednesday morning at the barber.  They came out of their looking like tripplets.  Very cute, but very much alike.  They are really enjoying the summer, with boats, snails, fishing, soccer and Midsummer activities.

Cheers for now.

Life on the other side of the Atlantic is under way.  Jen arrived two weeks ago with a big stack of boxes and three kids.  What happen to bachelor time for the dog and I?  Well things are slowly falling in to place.  Vallersvik is the HQ for the family and the renovations have helped the living situation improve.  Shower indoors....... not bad......

A big “thank you” to everyone who pitched in and helped us out during the move.  A word of caution however, the 40 foot container arrives the 2nd week in June.  He-he

I apologize for the three months gap in the reporting.  We have finally solved our hosting problem.... for now.   Well our move to Sweden is officially under way.  I have moved and started my new job in Sweden.  The Saab is on M/S Atlantic Companion, 4 days east of New York.  Jen is holding down the fort in the US for another eight weeks before the crew makes the voyage across.

This is going to be one massive logistical nut to crack.  I will not bore you with the details, but needless to say it eats up a massive amount of time for all of us.

Lots of kudos to Jen & Tess for their hard work.

From a snowy but lonely Sweden

Glad Lucia!!!

Well long time - no write... Not much going on. Sold the house, moved to a small apartment, rented storage, twins turned one, Tess got flea bites... just the regular stuff...

We are very happy that the house sale happened. It obviously created a lot of work. Hats off to Bengt & Anders who came out and did a lot of the packing and moving. The helped us night and day for 8 days and we couldn't have done it without them. Also hats off to Jen who carried the heavy load as I had to divert my attention to my job.

We have rented two apartments at Korman Suites (http://kormanresidential.com/meadowbrook/photos.php). Tess has her own that doubles as kids play room during the day. The rest of us are squeezed in to one. We are enjoying it, but it is quiet a change.

The double headed monster turned one. They are so full of life and I can't imagin what will happen when they start to walk/run around. They got cup cakes to dig in to during the big day, and dig they did.....

Cheers for now - Father of Three

Happy Halloween!!

Today is Halloween. A lot has happen since our last posting. We sold our house to a nice family a few weeks back. The move out date is set for December 5th. We will reside at the Korman Suites in Meadowbrook as a temporary solution. We will obviously have a rather large workload to get things done in the next five weeks.

Jen went to Prague for a week to drum up some more business during the IBA Conference. I decided to go to Sweden for a few days to paint the new house. We were able to get a lot accomplished during four days. Thank you all for helping out. The house immediately had to very interested tenants, and the chosen one moved in last w-end.

Tonight will be spent with Jen and Joel in Wayne. Trick or Treating is the highlight of the year for most kids. Gustav will go as a dragon, and Carl & Rikard will have matching (mom's idea!!) lion cub dresses. I'm sure we'll have a blast.

Cheers / GC

Beautiful autumn!!  We have had unbelievably nice weather so far during September.  Fairly dry and low 80’s make this the best time of the year.  It sure will be a shock, weather wise to move back to Sweden.  Yes we have finally decided to move to Sweden.  The boys are driving this decision, since we want them to grow up in a safe and healthy environment.  We bought a house on Lidingö that we rented out until we get our things in order over here.  So we will head across the pond in 9-20 months time.

Gustav started back in school again.  He is in a new class, with new teachers and new kids.  He is not the easiest when it comes to transitions, so we are having a few emotional periods during the morning drop-off.  I'm sure he will be enjoying it more in a week or two.  He is growing up quickly, and his sense of humor is a delight.  I'm not the one to laugh at anything, but this kid cracks me up.

Carl and Rikard are developing their own personalities.  Carl still spends 80% of the time with a big smile on his face, and Rikard still prefers to be held.  They are crawling with an astonishing speed.

We had our first open house to sell the house and we were amazed how many people showed up.  The weather was perfect and all the work that we had put into it really turned out well.  It was a great day.

Well back to life, back to reality.  Vacation has come and gone and it is back to long hours in the office for Göran.  In fact he is away this week in Jackson Hole with his company.  Now they tell me he is working hard, but he is at the Snake River Lodge so you tell me.

We had a great time at the Loeb family reunion.  I think Gustav had the most fun of all.  He loved playing with his cousins, eating candy, cookies and cake every day and he loved the activities with mom and dad.  It was a great time.  Because he learned to ride a bike for the first time while in Oregon we were forced to get a bike for home.  So Gustav has been really enjoying his new bike with his Harley Davidson helmet and arm and knee pads.  Trouble here we come.

Of course now we are suffering the effects of this great time.  The scale is tipping the wrong way, and we are going through sweet withdrawl (well Gustav and I are) and of course the boys are wondering why they can't be held 24/7.  But everyone is good and is happy, if somewhat cranky because they want to be held NONSTOP.

The house is getting ready for its revolving door routine again.  With Göran gone for a week, Tess's mom and her husband coming for a week, Tess leaving for a week, me leaving for a week and Helen helping us out through all of this and then leaving herself.  Phew, I am tired just thinking about it.   And just to add to the chaos Gustav is home from school and summer camp and then he starts school again.  Wow life is busy in the Cederwall household, but would you expect any less?

Wow - another six weeks flew by.  Gunilla came and went.  We had a good time and we thank her dearly for all her help.  We also wish her a speedy recovery from the nose-dive she recently took.

Gustav went to his first cocsert.  He was a trooper even though it lasted until 11:00 PM.  Mark Knopfler at The Mann Center was a big hit and it was fun that he played a lot of the old Dire Straits classics.  It was also a treat to have Gunilla join us for the outing.  Earlier that day, we celebrated Midsummer at the American-Swedish Museum in Philly.

Carl & Rikard are finally sleeping through the night.  Jen used to take the brunt of the work with Rikard, as he wanted a snack around 3:00 AM every night.  They are as happy as can be and have both been in the pool a few times with mom.

Live8 came to town and we had a nice day.  I went down to the spectacle in the morning while jen watched the kids.  Our rolls were reversed in the afternoon.  I saw Black Eyed Peas, Bon Jovi & Destinies Child.  Pink Floyd in London was definitely the highlight of the day.

Tess & Dr Atkins surprised us with a house full of salmon last night (insider joke).  Helen will be visiting us again in two weeks.  Vacation is getting closer.  9 long days in Oregon with three kids is exactly the R&R we need.  It will be fun to see all the Los Loebos again.  We will probably stop by University of Oregon to check out some old stomping grounds.

cheers  -  Papa Bear

(don't forget to checkout updates on the boys)

Today is a day of firsts.  Today for the first time Gustav went to school in underwear.  Yup, he is a big boy now.  He was so cute when he got to school he announced loudly to the whole class "look I have underwear"  and proceeded to drop his drawers to show anyone and everyone.  We shall shortly see how this first school day in underwear worked out.  We took lots of extra clothes just in case.

Today is also a first for Carl.  He rolled over from back to front.  Both Carl and Rikard have mastered the front to back roll, because they don't like being on their tummies but today it was the all important roll that takes him one step closer to freedom (crawling).

Other then that the Cederwall household is in its usual revolving door mode, waiting for our next visitor, which will be Farmor in less then a week.  Farmor will get the pleasure of Gustav's company while his school switches from regular school to summer camp.  Twelve days of activities with Gustav until he starts summer camp.  Then a little R&R for Gunilla when Gustav goes to camp and she is with us for an additional week.  Hopefully our bathroom will be finished and the pool will be warm by then, but my guess is at least one of those two things won't happen.  Call me a cynic

The concert theme continues this month as we just learned today that Live 8 a simultaneous concert between Philadelphia, London, Berlin and other venues will be taking place on July 2nd.  This is following on the Live Aid format of 1985, but this time it will be a free concert on the Parkway in the heart Philadelphia.  This concert will be insane.  We are already trying to find a babysitter, which won't be easy as every young person (or not so young person) with an ipod will be in attendance.

Well time to go pick-up the big boy in his Thomas the Tank underwear.  Jen

May 23rd

We have almost reached the end of May.  Everything is running smoothly at home.  Tess is taking great care of the twins; Gustav is having fun at school, playing with butterflies; the bathroom is slowly tuning in to a …. bathroom.   The pool is up and running.  Tess and Gustav are so far the only brave souls, if you exclude Roxby (Riebschleger’s dog).

Here comes the topic of the month.  Great music!!!  I decided that it was time to take advantage of the excellent concert scene here in Philly.  First off was Europe.  The old glam rockers from Upplands Väsby Sweden came for a visit to The Troc in Chinatown.  I think they played a good show, but they couldn’t even give away tickets to this one.  Maybe 200 people showed up which was a little embarrassing.  They played most of the hits and some new ones which I liked.  Joey still has a great presence on stage and it was fun to see Norum back on the guitar.

May 14th was the first of four visits to Philly from U2.  They played at the Wachovia Center and as usual the whole house was rocking.  Great light show was the highlight of the evening.  They played three or four old songs that an old geezer like me can sing along to.  I miss “Bad”, but “Pride” and “Where the streets have no name” brought down the house instead. (http://www.u2.com/)

The hottest ticket in town this month was Bruce Springsteen at The Tower.  He plays solo for two and a half hour using several different pianos and guitars.  I was one of the lucky few who got a ticket and I fully enjoyed this legend from the fourth row in my favorite concert hall.  This is not your regular “Born in the USA” Bruce.  This is blues and “Tom Joad” Bruce.  Magical.  He will finish his Tour at the Globe in Stockholm in the end of June.  Unfortunately it is totally the wrong arena for this kind of show.  He should have been at “Konsert Huset”.  Too bad.

This months Concert bonanza finished up with the musical genius of Steven Wilson and his Porcupine Tree Saturday night at the Troc.  The place was packed and the odd crowed was in frenzy.  I have only been a fan for about three years, but this Prog-rock band from England is a nice mixture of Pink Floyd, Saga and Scorpions.  The last two albums have really brought this group out from obscurity.  Tracks like “Train” and “Lazarus” will always be on my Ipod.

Well the next concert is almost a month away, but it is a good one.  Mark Knopfler will be at The Mann on June 25th.  We have excellent tickets to this great outdoor (under a roof) amphi theater.  Gustav and Gunilla will be joining us that night, and I pray that Gustav won’t freak out, since he is not a big “noise” kind of guy.

Well April has come and almost gone.  Gustav turned 3 and Carl & Rikard are almost 5 months old now.  It is amazing how time flies.  Our new AuPair Tess joined us 2 weeks ago and the babies couldn’t be in better hands.  Helen will leave us tomorrow and return to Sweden.  We will all miss her very much, but look forward to having her back here in the fall, when (we hope) she will begin college.  It has been a real treat having 2 such capable girls helping us out the last two weeks.

Gustav had his 3rd birthday party last Sunday and it was a BIG hit.  There were 15+ kids between the ages of 2-5 running around like mad.  The Little Gym was a success and the kids had a great time.  Gustav got enough presents to last a lifetime and we will be picking up toys for equally as long.

As usual the Cederwall household is expecting a visit soon.  Farmor will be coming to see the newest additions and will be taking care of Gustav between the end of school and the beginning of summer camp.  Now that is what I call bringing in reinforcements.  We are all looking forward to her arrival in June.

In the meantime we are finally turning to our bathroom and expect to have that up and running by Farmor’s arrival.  What a novelty it will be to not have to walk through the house in the middle of the night to use the bathroom.  We are also opening the pool on May 2nd and are hoping and praying that the weather turns warm immediately thereafter, as Gustav keeps asking when he gets to swim again.  It might be a little hard to explain to him that the water is too cold for swimming as he seems to be oblivious to how cold the water is.  Just goes to show he is truly Nordic at heart.

Life is crazy but full of fun and love.  We look forward to seeing and hearing from all of you soon. Jen (mom of 3 boys)

April 7, 2005

The weeks keeps ticking along.  We survived Easter break with flying color.  Gustav was starting to climb on the walls and Helen was so relieved when he finally went back to school this Monday.  He is now full time 4 days a week and lovin' every minute of it.

Göran had a birthday.  Spent it in the Dr-office removing birthmarks.  A perfect birthday for a soon-to-be 40-something.  Jen went back to work last week.  Spending the first day back with SEC in NYC might not be your dream date, but life goes on.

Spring gave us a glimse of things to come earlier today.  75F and sunny brought out the BBQ's and the T-bones.  I'm sure tonights rain will snap us back to reality, but Hey it was fun while it lasted.

Tess will arrive in a week, so we still have seven days to get our ducks in a row.

Well it looks like we have a new aupair!  Yippee!!!  Her name is Therese Blombäck.  She is supposed to arrive on April 11th, which will give her time with Helen to learn the ropes.  We are all so excited.

Gustav is getting ready for spring break and will be home with mom, Helen and the little ones for a whole week.  It will be mom's last week on maternity leave so we will try and make it fun.  I will miss my time with my boys but I am looking forward to being a working person again.

Well as we begin to shake off the ice and snow and thaw out we are looking forward to a visit from Farmor in June and then family vacation in August to a family reunion in Sunriver Oregon.  We can't wait to take off the hats and mittens and open the pool.

March 2, 2005

March-ing along....

The throttle is on full speed right now.  Work is absorbing an enormous amount of time.  I need to scale back a little, or I will hit the wall harder than Elofsson did during the 15 km last Olympics.  Gustav is also running full speed.  He found out that it is fun to run full speed through the house and make very loud noises.  That's perfect for dad after an 80 hr work week.  He has actually been pretty good during the w-ends, as he has spent the time at my office and quickly become a favorite of the w-end crew.

Jen is slowly inching back to a somewhat normal life.  She is trying to participate in a few work-related gatherings, so that she will be ready to go back to work in four weeks.  It will be a big change for all of us as she has handled 95% of the household duties during my hectic time at work.

Our new Au Pair will hopefully arrive in May.  We are really looking forward to her arrival in early May.  She will have her hands full with the two boys, but I'm sure she will succeed.  Gustav will log a lot more hours in school starting April 1st, so she will only have limited responsibility for him.

We have committed to spend our long summer vacation (10 days) in Oregon this year.  It should be a lot of fun and Gustav is looking forward to see all of his cousins.  This means that family won't be in Sweden this year, but we should be back in 2006.

Happy Festivus   /  Göran

February 14, 2005

Happy Valentines Day!!  Well Mormor and Morfar are back in Oregon.  We miss them terribly.  It was so wonderful to have them here.  Gustav asks about them all the time and we keep telling him that he will see them in Oregon come August.  He has kept up the tradition Morfar started of playing hide and seek and he is really getting good at it.  It is so much fun to see how he has developed as a result of their visit.  We had parent teacher conferences last Friday and they said that Gustav has changed dramatically and now plays well with the other kids and is very social.  They say they are finally getting to see his sense of humor.

The next visitor to the Cederwall Inn is Farfar, who is coming in the beginning of March.  We can't wait, as we have lots of projects from him.  Hee-hee!! Actually we can't wait to see how Gustav interacts with Farfar.  I'm sure they will have a blast.

Helen is fitting right in to the family again after an 18 months absence.  It is so nice to have her back.  I am sure she is wondering what she got herself into with these three wild boys. Especially with Gustav who talks non-stop and runs around with boundless energy.  She is a great help and is even cooking one night a week.  How lucky are we!!  What a difference it is to have her here.

The twins are getting huge.  They had their 2 month appointment on the February 7th.  Carl weighed 11 lbs. 5 oz.  and was 23.5 inches long.  Rikard weighed 10 lbs. 9 oz. and was 23 inches long.  They are both doing really well and they are developing very different personalities.  It is fun to see how they change.  Rikard is a real snuggler, while Carl is a happy go-lucky child.  They are amazing.  Well time to get some sleep while I can - two hours until the next feeding (if I am lucky).  Jen

January 27, 2004

Well the Cederwall household is moving along fine.  Not quite like a well oiled machine, but doing well all the same.  Late next week our first AuPair Helen will return to us for a 3 months period.  We can't wait.  Mormor & Morfar will depart once Helen arrives.  All of us will be very sad to see them go.  I think Gustav will miss them a lot, but I think I will miss them the most.  How will I manage all these boys on my own!  They have been so much help and we have had some fun times.  All of us miss all the good dinners that they provided.

Last week Gustav started going to school an additional 2 days a week (all day).  He is taking his afternoon nap at school and he loves it.  He has his own sleeping bag with stars on it.  He is also helping out with Carl and Rikard.  He helps throw out the diapers or get new ones for Mormor, he holds them and has even given them a bottle. He loves them but thinks they are "very noisen."

Carl and Rikard have given us their first smiles and more laundry then I ever thought possible.  I cannot believe how much laundry we have.  We are all having so much fun with them, though I would love to have a little more sleep.  The three or less hours sleep really isn't cutting it.

We are so excited that our Eagles are in the Superbowl and we will be cheering them on in a week and a half.  "Fly Eagles fly, on the road to victory....."

Happy New Year!!!!

Another few weeks have past and the family is a little tired by now.  Carl and Rikard are doing excellent.  They went to the doctor earlier this week for their one month check up appointment.  They each gained two pounds and grew 2 inches.  They are very alert and hungry, so mormor Loeb is helping out with the work load.

Malin left for Sweden and we thank her for her service over the past year.  Blue-blue lost his best friend when she left, so he is a little depressed.  He is still as spoiled as can be with people in the house 24-7 to cater to his needs.

A lot of people will come and go over the next few months.  Barb & Lou will head back to Oregon in early February.  Helen from the metropolitan town of Molkom Värmland will join us in early February for a few months.  Farfar Bengt will check-in the first week in March to view his new grand kinds for the first time. Farmor Gunilla will probably take over in late April.  Jennifer is scheduled to return to working life April 1st.  Who knows how things will work out after that.

Ho ho ho   Merry Christmas!!!!

Well, it will be SOME Christmas this year.  The house is full of people.  Where did everyone come from??  Barb & Lou and their dachshound George are out back in the RV.  Their living space can also double as a freezer when the temp dips below 10 Fahrenheit.  Lou should be happy that he is clean shaven this year, or the icicles would have formed overnight.

The next group is Gustav & his dog Blue-blue.  G has a lot of energy now that he is off from school for a few weeks.  He is turning in to a really nice little boy that has that special humor that very few of us are born with.  Blue-blue on the other hand is longing for the spring.  He prefers to be outside for less than 10 seconds.  It is hard to do all your "business" that fast, so we have had a few accidents lately.  BAD DOG!!!

Carl & Rikard have the best life of all of us.  Sleep, feed and diaper changes.  This cycle repeats eight times every 24 hour period.  Mom is battling to keep up, since there are two of them.  That means 16 feedings, diapers etc every day.  Puhh...  They are both doing well after some initial struggle with temperature and oxygen intake.  They are as different as you can be.  Carl looks like Gustav and Dad,  Rikard is a copy of his mom.

Mom & Dad are doing good.  Not much time for R&R, but rest is overrated isn't it??

Hello World!!!!

Two healthy babies arrived late last night at Abington Memorial Hospital.  The time was 11:37 PM and first out of the gate was Carl Christian.  He weighed 6lbs 3 ozs and was 19 1/2 inches tall.  His brother Rikard Felix arrived a minute later (6 lbs 19 inches).

Mom is doing well and is expected home on Saturday.  We arrived at the hospital around 10:00 PM and a quick scan by the Doc showed that if we wanted a C-section we better hurry.

Carl swallowed some fluid, so he is a little "gurgley".  Rikard heart is beating a little fast, but he is probably just adjusting to the new world.

Dad is about to go down for a nap.  Our life as a family of five (+ a dog & AuPair) has just begun.....

Cheers  Göran

Happy Thanksgiving!!!!

The turkeys had a bad day yesterday.  Millions of these birds got consumed by the savages all over the country.  We had a 20-pounder that filled our house with that traditional Thanksgiving aroma.  Nine adults and four kids had gathered around our table this year.  We had a good time as usual, with extra kudos to Barb & Lou for slaving in the kitchen and Adrianne for entertaining Blue-blue all night.

Jen is now 10 month pregnant according to the stomach size chart.  The twins are about 6 lbs each and seem to be doing well.  Their mother however is starting to pray for an early delivery.  Swollen hands & feet and pain in almost every body part including the tongue make life slightly miserable..... for all of us.....

Cheers  Göran

It is only a couple of days to Halloween and Gustav has his costume ready.  He is going as a green and purple dinosaur.  If Halloween is anything like it was last year it will be a rousing success.  This year we have Farmor with us so that should make it all the more fun.

Well Farmor is here to help us entertain Gustav while Malin is on vacation, traveling around Florida with her family.  Gustav loves the extra attention (and the goodies that go with Farmor).  We had a great time meeting Malin's family and Gustav loved Ophelia, it was so adorable.  We only wish we could have spent more time with them.

Well it is about to be an exciting couple of weeks and months visitor wise.  We are expecting a number of visitors beginning with my sister Julie the week before Thanksgiving and she will stay 8 days.  Lou and Barb arrives a couple of days before Thanksgiving and stay until the first week in February.  Then Helen (our first au pair) will come in February to stay with us for 3 months.  So as you can see there is going to be a lot of different people around to help us enjoy the holidays, Gustav and of course the twins.

Oh I almost forgot to mention the twins are scheduled to make a guest appearance on December 14th, if they don't decide to surprise us before then.  The count down has begun so keep your browsers set to this site for frequent update.  Jen and the two "kickaroos"

Fall is here!!!

It has been a great summer.  We escaped the heat. For the first time since we moved to Philly we didn't have a 2-3 week heat wave.  It is funny, because in Sweden people would kill for a heat wave, but I guess they never experience a 100-degrees with 90% humidity.

Our trip to Sweden was a delight.  We picked up our new Volvo in Göteborg and did a stop-over in Värmland before continuing on to Stockholm.  It was fun to see Helen (our first Au pair) in Molkom.  The two weeks were spent moderate tempo.  We visited a few friends, but spent most of the time at Vallersvik.  Sweden had a bad weather summer, but the first two weeks in August turned out to be a winner and we are happy we timed it right.

Back in the US brought some change for Gustav.  He started pre-school in September at Abington Friends.  Not an easy transition for this little spoiled King.  He spends 3 half-days every week, and the tears are getting fewer as the days go by.  He is very excited to go every morning but the tears starts to pour when dad needs to leave for work.  I'm sure he will adjust, but I prefer sooner rather than later.

The twins are kicking away at a furious pace.  I’m sure that they will make Jen’s life somewhat difficult during this last trimester.  We will be very happy if the little monsters can hang in there until early/mid December.  Gustav & Blue-blue are still lulling around, unaware of the two bombs that will hit the household this Christmas.

We are eagerly awaiting some much needed help from Gunilla (Oct), Julie (Nov), Barb & Lou (Dec-Jan) and Helen (Feb-Apr).  The house will be full of activity, so a late night at work will be considered free-time……

All aboard?      Göran

June 28th, 2004

Glad Midsommar!!!

We celabrated Midsummer three weeks early at the Swedish-American Museum.  It was actually really nice.  we helped raise the pole and Gustav danced with the other kids for a few minutes.  They served some good food and even the weather was a little Swedish (Cloudy and on the cold side).

Well I think that the big news is out for the most part.  Gustav will become a big brother x 2 in the beginning of December.  Yepp, that's right, "The Twins" are on their way.  We both figure that if we can get 5 minutes extra sleep per night for the next five months, we'll do fine..... NOT.   It is going to be an exciting Christmas this year, that's for sure.  Gustav is listening to their hearts every night and he probably have no clue what will happen come December.

Our Sweden trip is only five weeks away, and we are looking forward to some well deserved R&R.  We hope to see you at Vallersvik between the 6-19 of August.

Hey May!!!

Spring has finally arrived to "the land of the free".  The pool cover has been removed and a new lawnmower has been purchased and used twice already.  Allergy season is also in full bloom.  We are all suffering and Gustav's eyes look red and swollen.

The Volvo is in the shop after a three car pile-up.  It will be traded in for a new one this summer.  This will hopefully coincide with our visit to Estockholmo in August.  We are planning a two week R&R @ Vallersvik which hopefully will include crayfish, golf and fishing.

Gunilla is coming for a three week visit on May 17th.  We are looking forward to her company, as well as an extra set of hands to be put to good use.  Gustav will most certainly enjoy it.

The Flyers finally has a realistic chance of winning the cup this year.  We all of the big teams knocked out, they need to take the bull by the horn and get it done.  This town needs a major championship after two decades of near misses.

Happy new year!!!

Wow, another two months flew by.  We have been running around at warp speed trying to catch up with our responsibilities.  So what has happened as of late. Well lets see.

On the AuPair front Lisa left for Sweden in mid December and was replaced by Malin about 10 days ago.  Gustav is taking the change in stride, but he has decided to play his mom for a sucker.  He is a sweet boy to everyone except his mom.  Malin's arrival saw a dramatic change in Blueblue who thinks he has died and gone to heaven.  Needless to say that Malin is good with animals.

We had the pleasure of spending almost three weeks with Mormor & Morfar, who filled in as experienced Au Pairs during Christmas.  They did a fabulous job and are welcome back any time.  They also made the holiday's a family "thing" for Gustav which we appreciate.

First week in January was spent with visitors from Sweden.  The Degerth family delighted us with their presens.  Lina (soon-to-be four) became Gustav's favorite and he still asks for "Ninni".  Blueblue took to Hugo and they became best buddies.

We now have a cold spell here on the eastern sea board.  Golf season seems far away, but have faith.....

Another month went by and we have all been super busy.  Gustav's Farfar came to visit for 10 days.  He was a BIG help around the yard and he played with his two Grand kids Gustav and Blueblue.  We had some good weather, so we hit the links for three rounds as well.

Halloween came and went and Gustav really enjoyed it this year.  We continued our tradition and spent the evening with Jen & Joel in Blue Bell. Gustav was eager to receive candy at each house and is looking forward to next year already.

We have two house projects going on right now.  Our HVAC guy is spending a few days to upgrade our ducts to see if we can't cut our heating bill down a little.  Right now we are rivaling a few African nations when it comes to GDP.  The master bath will hopefully kick off before not too long.

Another two months went by and we have all been super busy.  So what has happen since our last report.  Well Helen said goodbye and Lisa said Hello.  Gustav now has a new Au Pair that he can torture.  I think they are getting along well.  Blue-blue will be her biggest challenge.   We all went and saw Sweden-North Korea and were happy to see the blue-yellow come out on top.  We will all be watching Sunday to see if they can bring home the gold.

Gunilla spent the better part of September with us.  She was a big help as usual and Gustav truly misses her now that she is back in Sweden.  Gustav's Farfar will arrive in another two weeks, so we are looking forward to that as well.

Thanksgiving will soon be around the corner, but first it is time for Gustav's second Halloween.  He went as a lion last year, so we'll see if he can squeeze into the same outfit this year, or if we have to come up with something new.   Cheers for now  /  Göran

We have been very bad at updating our site lately.  I guess that is what happens when you mix two busy jobs and a 16 month old.  Yes, Gustav is now 16 months old and is learning how to run.  He hasn't really gotten good at walking yet but that isn't stopping him, he is off and running which means a lot of scraped knees and foreheads.  I finally got brave and gave him pasta the other day and if you look at the picture of the week you will see the result.  It required an immediate bath.

We are about to say good bye to Helen and welcome Lisa Olsson into our home.  We will be sad to Helen go but we are also looking forward to meeting Lisa.  Lots of things going on these days we will try and keep you up to date.  Jen-

Back to business.  Vacation is over and we are all back in the states.  We had a wonderful time in Sweden visiting with friends and relaxing at Vallersvik.  Gustav behaved in an exemplary manner during the whole trip.  He got to spend time with all of his Swedish relatives and embraced them with open arms.  He spent a few days on Gotland with his farfar.  He enjoyed the trip to Klintehamn and the ice cream at the harbor.  He spent an afternoon with his gammel-farmor and many days with his farmor.  Many thanks to farmor Gunilla, that watched Gustav when Jen went to London.

Life in the fast lane!!

Tomorrow is travel day.  A quick car ride to Newark followed by SAS to Arlanda.  Let's hope that Gustav enjoys 8 hours of Boeing.  Sweden here we come.

Hello - We are back.

We are at war with our ISP since our web service is not working properly.  Apperently so are 3 million other people so the customer service response time is about 3 years.  Well, well excuses-excuses...

So what has happen the last month and a half.  Well lets see if I can recall a few events.
Helen went to Mexico for two weeks and had a faboulous time.  She wont miss the camping part, but turning 21 during the trip meant that no money was left when she landed at PHL.

Gustav turned one and we had a small birthday bash in his honor.  It rained for about a week but the morning of his birthday the sky cleared and we had 24 C and the best spring weather of the year.  He got lots of nice presents and he was in a great mood.

Gunilla joined us for four weeks in April to take care of Gustav in Helen's absence.  I think she had a good time with her grandchild, because he smiled every morning when she came down to releave me.  Her only complaint was a sore back the last week after carrying Gustav who still refuses to walk on his own.  However he still has until July 1st to beat his dad or else he will be the slowest walker in the family.  By the way Blue-blue is in the lead....

May saw the arrival of the famous painter Nikitas Kampanis.  He spent two week helping us paint portions of the house.  He brought a lot of life and laughter to the house and he is truly missed, especially by Blue-blue.

Goran made another career move and is now the Director of Finance for Chelsea House Publishers.  Jen works harder than ever and will be visiting Florida this month since her clients are conveniently located in the sunshine state.

We are looking forward to meeting our Swedish friends during our visit in June.

After a few technical difficulties we are back on line and now we have Farmor with us!  Yeah!!!  Helen is in Mexico for two weeks and Gunilla has been enlisted to help out.  Gustav is in heaven having Farmor around.

It seems unbelievable that in less than a week my little boy will be 1 year old.  I look at him and he is a little boy in every way except in my heart.  Now I understand why people always say such weird things to little kids, saying "oh how big you have gotten," and "I remember when."   I feel like saying that to Gustav every day.

I really can't believe I am the mother of a 1 year-old, but he is so unbelievably cute and now so much more interactive that it is really fun, if maybe a little exhausting.  This weekend Farmor taught him how to climb stairs and now it is non-stop climbing stairs.  I guess gates just moved up to the top of the list of things to do.

The gates are even above "replace entire bathroom."  Unfortunately, our master bath has decided it is time to remodel.  The decision was made when water came pooring through the ceiling on the first floor while Goran was showering.  I would say that was a pretty big sign that it was time to do something.  Unfortunately our choices were tear out bathroom floor or tear out roof in living room.  Either way we are in trouble.  Last weekend we hauled 1,300 lbs of concrete and tile out of the bathroom and that was just two shower walls.  I don't even want to think about what is left to remove out of there, but one step at a time.

Goran and I have decided to join a golf league together on Thursday nights.  I guess it will be our date night.  It is a good excuse to get out of work early at least once a week.  Work has been crazy busy and so I need the excuse to leave.  I am enjoying it more than I expected and so far so good.  Of course it has only been 4 months.

Well I should go figure out where the boys are, it has been far too quiet for too long, not a good sign! :c)  Jen-

February 24, 2003

Well the last couple of weeks have been very eventful in the Cederwall household.  Gustav is now sitting up on his own and is a few tries away from being able to pull up to his feet on furniture.  Looks like we lowered the crib not a moment too soon. He is getting a mouthfull of new teeth so he has been a little cranky, but still for the most part our happy little guy.  He had begun a class at Little Gym, which is for kids between 10 months and 18 months.  He turned 10 months on the day of his first class.  He really enjoys it and gets to meet other babies.  He even went to his first birthday party for Teddy Felix (Teddy turned 4).  He is adorable as always and keeping us giggling.  He has learned "Mama"  "Papa" and "BaBa" (or BlueBlue to the rest of us).

The weather had been for the most part just how I like it, cold and full of snow.  We have been hit by a series of snow storms which have resulted in appoximately 3 feet of snow on the ground.  We got almost 2 feet in one storm.  The only bad part was last weekend we had a rain storm, which melted a lot of snow but not all of it.  Another storm is on the horizon for the weekend and if we get 5 inches we (Pennsylvania) will have had the snowest month on record.  I bet you didn't know I was an amature weather person.  Just kidding but I do love snow.

One unwelcome side effect of the snow is an new house guest.  Our new house guest is one very large grey squirrel, who decided to come down our chimney pipe in the tv room and push out the sponge that was blocking the hole and run around the house and back up the pipe, where he seems to have taken refuge.  We think that he must have fallen down the chimney and just wants to get out.  The only problem is we would prefer he goes out through the top and he sees things differently.  For now we have a cookie tin lid over the opening and a board blocking the lid from coming off.  You can hear the sqirrel scratching away and see his little paws and nose peek around the edges of the lid.  A permanent solution is on its way now in the form of a cement plug.  Well that is it for now from the Cederwall house.  Jen-

February 8, 2003

We have new teeth pushing through and as a result a little crankier Gustav than usual.  He is getting 2 teeth on his left of his front two teeth, they are visable when he really laughs or cries.  Of course we prefer it when he laughs.  Today we were out in the snow for a couple of minutes, but Gustav is not as in love with snow as I am.  BlueBlue came out with us too but he was even less enthusiastic.  Unfortunately there weren't any great pictures because it was too sunny for some and too cold for others but as you will see in this weeks picture I was happy with the snow!

We had a snow storm on Thursday night/Friday morning that dropped about 8 inches or 2 dm of snow.  Then today was sunny but pretty cold so we just had to go out and enjoy it.   I am hoping that the predictions for more snow on Monday are true.  I think I am the only one with that wish besides the school kids!

Gustav is doing really well though still not crawling.  He had begun to push himself backwards sometimes like a cray fish, his new nickname.  He has also learned to point and will spend a lot of time in the morning pointing at things and then looking at you to tell him what it is.  His favorite thing to look at is the light.

He pretty much refuses to eat baby food anymore so we are having to start getting really inventive in what we can feed him.  He likes noodles and raisens and cheerios.  He really likes cheese and he likes chicken.  I found out today he does not like green peppers.  He spit it right out.  It was very funny.

Helen has started a night class at Philadelphia Community College so 2 nights a week Gustav gets to spend a little extra time with dad and two nights a week he gets a little extra time with mom.  For us it is a lot of fun because we feel like we are playing hookie to be with our son.  Not bad at all.

Well Gustav is sleeping in his crib which we just lowered for the first time tonight and I think I will take advantage of the silence and go relax.  We have begun counting the days until Farmor arrives.  Jen-

Well a new year and it seems like a new little boy.  He is starting to look more and more like a little boy and less and less like my little baby.  He can even play tug with BlueBlue now.  BlueBlue is so good and doesn't bit down when Gustav is playing with him.  BlueBlue will bring his favorite ball and drop it in Gustav's lap and then they will proceed to play tug.  If BlueBlue gets the ball and turns away Gustav will get mad and cry out and BlueBlue gives him the ball back it is so fun to watch.  Yesterday BlueBlue was licking Gustav's ear and Gustav was laughing so hard he could barely sit up.  I love watching them play together.

Gustav had his 9-month check-up and he is growing like a weed as usual.  The doctor measured him laying down and he was 31 inches (that is off the charts long) so he then measured him standing up 28.5 inches.  The difference is of course that Gustav can't really stand-up straight yet, but now that he is such a big boy that is how we will be measuring him.  He weighed 19 lbs. 14 oz, which puts him at about the 47 percentile in weight.  In other words we have one long skinny boy!  He is adorable, healthy, happy and the light of his mom and dad's life.

I will try and update this website a little more often. Jen-

Well it is a new year and a new Gustav.  After spending a week with Mormor and Morfar and all his cousins Gustav is ready and raring to go.  He is much more active so it is a good thing that Santa brought him an activity center where he can get out some of his new found energy.  He is talking a lot more and lets you know what he wants very loudly!  He has been fighting a cold, but it doesn't seem to keep him from having fun.  He had a great time with his cousins and learned in order to be heard in such a large group you have to be LOUD!!  Now if we can just teach him volume control.

The only one who seems to have escaped the winter cold is BlueBlue but he is having his own problems.  With the new improved version of Gustav back in the house, things are a little loud.  BlueBlue is protesting this new change by misbehaving a little, including a brief adventure up on the dinning room table.  He was caught in the act by Helen and well you can imagine the scene.

Otherwise life is rolling forward and we are looking forward to the new year and maybe an Eagles Superbowl chance!  Jen-

December 26, 2002

Christmas came early to Rydal this year.  We all got the same present about a week early.  A BAD COLD.  Running noses and sore throats were some of the characteristics.

The whole family went out to Skippack and cut a nice 10 footer, which was promptly decorated by some shaky hands belonging to Helen & Jen.  Blue-blue inspected the tree from all angels but decided not to lift the leg on such a fine specimen. Gustav loved the lights but didn't like the sharp needles.

Later that w-end, Gustav decided that the cold and the dripping nose were not fun at all, so he protested by not eating.  This made him a little irritated to say the least and after 36 hours I decided to take him to the doctor for a quick check up. Doc said that he was a little dehydrated and gave him another 24 hrs before a return visit with more drastic measures.  Helen and I sang "Imse Vimse Spindel" and Gustav decided that he had had enough of both our singing and his hunger strike, so he drank 2 1/2 bottles of formula and fell a sleep.

Santa came on Christmas Eve, and we spent hours opening all the presents.  Gustav made it through dinner and a few presents before he crashed in bed.  That was probably a wise choice, since he had to get up early next morning and fly to Oregon to meet Grandma & Grandpa.

Happy New Year  /  Göran

Well the first winter storm has come and gone dropping 8 inches or 2 decimeters of snow.  It is so pretty and of course I am as happy as can be to see the white stuff.  It is laying like a white winter blanket on all of the birdhouses the guys put up last weekend.  We got twice as much snow yesterday as we had all of last winter and it was fun to shovel.  OK, it was a little work but it was still fun.  Gustav had his first look at snow and I can't say he was too impressed.  It was just cold and wet, but he sure looked cute in it.  BlueBlue is a definite no vote when it comes to snow.  It is far too cold on his little tootsies.  He did however have a great time running around in circles chasing Helen in the yard.  It was very funny to see him hopping around in the snow.

Gustav is growing like a weed with 4 teeth and more on the way.  He is sitting up now which means there are a lot more fun things to do.  He is getting very decided as to what he wants and lets us know when we are not doing it.  He is eating us out of house and home, but he is so much fun.

Check out the new pictures under Gustav and Helen.  Jen-

Another two weeks have passed.  I went to Sweden for a week to work on our vacation home.  Not much has happened to one of the houses since it was built in the early 60’s.  So I spent the week trying to bring the floors and ceiling up to today’s standard.  Many thanks to Anders, Björn, Johan, Nikitas & Bengt, who spent numerous hours of their valuable time to make this happen.

Gustav finally grew enough to ware the AIK-dress that my brother bought for him about 6 months ago.  If he has the same amount of talent as his dad, he should be able to view a lot of games from “Norra Stå”.

Gustav had another three shots given by the Doc last week.  I also had his first dentist appointment.  Everything seems to be under control and he his looking forward to celebrate his first Thanksgiving next week.

Blue-blue had his big day Monday, when he turned ONE.  He spent the whole day proving that he is still a puppy.  He is bringing in at least one tick a day, so we are hoping for the cold winter to arrive soon and kill of these little devils.

Cheers  GC

November 5, 2002

So we have finally reached the month of November.  Home Depot is filled with people stockpiling rakes and leaf bags.  We are sooo looking forward to spend our few available hours stuffing about a zillion leaves into those bags.

Well it has been an eventful two weeks since our last report.  Blue-blue joined me one night as I was taking out the trash.  Unfortunately so did two deer, and the gathering of the four of us was anything but a calm evening of Bridge.  I could here them for miles as the three of them disappeared from radar screen in about 10 seconds.  Fortunately our four-legged friend returned within the hour, before the search party had ventured to far.

Gustav spent Halloween dressed as a lion.  He made the costume proud and slept most of the time, just like his bigger friends do in the wilderness.  Jen & Joel were nice enough to let us spend our first Halloween with Gustav in their new McMansion (we are talking super sized McMansion here).

This month will include Thanksgiving, visit from Dad and a Sweden trip.
Stay tuned   /  GC

October 22, 2002

Gustav feed himself with a bottle for the first time on Sunday.  He was so cute, and he showed how he could do it again last night.  He is getting so big.  Today I went shopping for some clothes for my long little boy.

I can't believe how fast he is growing.  I was relieved to see that even if Gustav grows as he has and remains in the 90th percentile for height he will only grow to approximately 31.5 inches at 1 year of age.  That is important for a number of reasons but most important among them being that he will not grow out of his clothes as quickly (a size every 1.5 months), and the very most important reason so he will only be half my height at 1 year old!  Just kidding but how depressing is that for me!

On my earlier update I mistakenly reported him as falling out of the 90th percentile in height, but I was wrong.  He has fallen slightly below the 50th percentile in weight but he is close.  I guess we will have to start stuffing him.

I am on the hunt for a Halloween costume for Gustav as he will be attending at least one Halloween event!  Humm I wonder if there are any worm costumes out there! :c) Jen-

Sunday October 20, 2002

Gustav had his 6-month appointment on Friday and he got three shots, my poor little guy.  He did really well, even though the nurse was really slow!  He weighed in at 17 lbs exactly, which is a little lighter than I thought, but still puts him in just under the 50% in weight.  He was 27.5 inches long, which makes him about 75% in height; his head was about the 70% at 45 cm.  So he is long and thin with a big head! :c)  Just like his dad!  Actually he looks remarkably like Göran, though I am getting a sneaking suspicion he may have gotten my brown eyes.  Only time will tell.  We go back to the doctor in 1 month for another shot and hopefully for the 2 others that he hasn't gotten because they were back ordered.  I better go because right now he is sleeping on the floor of my office while I get some work done and he will soon wake.  Do I have an amazing child or what!  I am in love! Jen-

October 15, 2002

Gustav is getting bigger everyday and on Saturday he turned 6 months, a whole half-year.  I really can't believe how fast time is flying.  Farmor timed it perfectly with a 1/2 year card arriving on his birthday.  He really enjoyed it, the flavor was just right! Everything is going into his mouth now and he tries to imitate mom and dad by taking our glasses at the dinner table and biting on them.  He is getting noisier with his protests and definitely lets you know if you are not paying enough attention to him.

He has totally grown out of every 6-month outfit he owns and is growing out of some of his 6-9 months clothes.  I am getting desperate for clothing for him.  He just continues to grow like a weed.  He is approximately 18 lbs now and 28 inches.  We will know for sure at his appointment on Thursday.  Mom has gotten her flu shot and now we just have to get the rest of the family involved.  I think Helen may be a little hard to convince!

We have all started working out and taking turns watching Gustav while the other two are working out.  It means we get to work out approximately 3 or 4 times a week for 1- 1.5 hours.  Hopefully it is enough to keep us from getting any rounder.  The bottomless tub of cookie dough is almost empty and much to my dismay will not be replaced.  In its place we have added something new to our diets veggies and fruits.  We need that apple a day to keep the doctor away and to make sure we are around for Gustav when he is 60 and having grandkids of his own.  Do I think ahead or do I think ahead.  Speaking of thinking ahead we will update Gustav's page on Friday after his doctor's appointment.  Until then check out the picture of the week and the new pictures under Gustav and Blue Blue.  Jen-
